2022 APAPA-Albany chapter internship program

The Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association - APAPA - is a nonpartisan volunteer-driven nonprofit founded in 2001 with over 40 chapters across the country. APAPA's mission is to advance Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities through increased leadership and civic engagement.

APAPA internship programs promote leadership and effective advocacy with a focus on civic engagement, voter registration, and public service.

The Albany chapter has been fulfilling APAPA's mission through its successful internship program since 2017. This year we are offering a new and enhanced internship program.

Welcome to a newer and enhanced 2022 APAPA-Albany chapter internship program.

This year, together with all participating APAPA chapters around the nation, the Albany chapter is joining forces with APAPA Headquarters’ internship team to offer a 2-level internship program with more flexibility while still providing a meaningful experience in government or public services.

The basic level is held all virtual and each participant will be working with interns from all participating APAPA chapters around the nation.

1. This offers the opportunity to participate in professional skills workshops, civic engagement projects, and case competitions. By working together with a wide-ranging alliance of interns, this model also affords all participants a nationwide network of AAPI students sharing similar interests and community visions.

2. Interns will have the chance to network with and learn from government, community, and business leaders via training, workshops, and projects.

The advanced level will include both participation in the basic level internship plus experience working in a local government or public service office.

For the basic level, we are offering each participant a scholarship of $500 at the end of the program.

Interns at the advanced level will receive a scholarship of $1000 each upon completion. A total of 10 scholarships will be awarded this year.

Applicants must be a student or an incoming student at an accredited college/university or educational institution.

• Applicants must demonstrate their connection to the AAPI (Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) community. This connection is inclusive of those who are mixed race, adoptees, or actively navigating their AAPI identity.

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the time the internship starts.

Send resume and personal statement to albanyapapa@gmail.com by March 31 or earlier if interested to be considered for the advanced level.

Please send inquiries or questions to albanyapapa@gmail.com. Each application will be reviewed as it comes until all positions are filled.
